Lehi's Jerusalem topic of BYU FARMS symposium Feb. 21

The Foundation for Ancient Research and Mormon Studies at Brigham Young University will sponsor a Book of Mormon symposium, “Glimpses of Lehi’s Jerusalem,” on Saturday, Feb. 21, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Harold B. Lee Library auditorium.

The symposium will explore the ancient world of Jerusalem and will cover topics including law and politics, everyday life and agriculture, ancient Hebrew writings, prophecy and Jerusalem as seen by its surrounding neighbors.

The symposium will be held in conjunction with the release of a new book by FARMS titled “Glimpses of Lehi’s Jerusalem.”

Scholars from BYU will make presentations at the symposium. Many of the scholars wrote articles which will appear in the book.

Presenters include:

  • Terry B. Ball, associate dean of religious education and associate professor of ancient scripture at BYU.

  • S. Kent Brown, director of ancient studies and professor of ancient scripture at BYU.

  • John W. Welch, the Robert K. Thomas professor of law at BYU, editor-in-chief of “BYU Studies” and founder of FARMS.

  • Jeffrey R. Chadwick, associate professor of church history and doctrine at BYU.

  • Wilford M. Hess, professor of botany and range science at BYU.

  • Dana M. Pike, associate professor of ancient scripture at BYU.

  • David R. Seely, professor of ancient scripture at BYU.

    Green-thumb dynasty: BYU landscaping wins fifth national championship in six years

    For the fifth time in six years, BYU students dug, pruned and planted their way to the National Collegiate Landscaping Competition title, the March Madness of college landscaping teams. BYU bested 50 other universities in the four-day event, outscoring the second-place finisher by more than 358 points and breaking the 5000-point total for the first time in the 48-year history of the tournament.
