Professor of classics and comparative literature William M. Calder III will be a guest lecturer at Brigham Young University Tuesday, March 23, at 4 p.m. in 2107 Jesse Knight Building.
Calder is considered the leading authority of the history of modern classical scholarship. He will be speaking on “The Triumph of Christianity: A Historian’s View.” The lecture will be archived online at kennedy.byu.edu.
Calder has had an extensive career in teaching and is the William Abbott Oldfather Professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He previously taught at Columbia University and the University of Colorado at Boulder.
He has published extensively with multiple articles in dozens of academic journals and 45 books. He has also appeared on multiple documentaries and been the recipient of the Heinrich Schliemann Medallion of the German Academy of Sciences and the Werner von Heisenberg Medallion of the Alexander von Humboldt Stiftung.
