Lawrence Lowe to present BYU faculty French horn recital Jan. 14

The Brigham Young University School of Music presents Laurence Lowe in a faculty recital Wednesday, Jan. 14, at 7:30 p.m. in the Madsen Recital Hall.

Lowe will be accompanied by Amanda Nixon on the piano. The performance is free and the public is welcome to attend.

The French horn recital will feature music by Mozart, BYU School of Music faculty member Murray Boren and a world premiere of a work composed by Lowe.

The middle movement of Lowe's Sonata for horn and piano is an elegy for Lowe's brother Allen, who died at age 19. "This is exciting music," Lowe said. "I wrote it to be fun and accessible right away. It's supposed to be lightweight, and it is written to be beautiful."

The concert also is the Provo premiere of the piece by Boren, which Lowe has played throughout the country.

"The piece is so difficult that it took me four years to learn," Lowe said.

For more information, contact Laurence Lowe at (801) 422-3318.
