Law professor David Thomas to give BYU devotional address June 3

David Thomas, holder of the Rex E. Lee Chair and professor at the J. Reuben Clark Law School, will deliver a Brigham Young University devotional on “A Law Upon Which All Blessings are Predicated” on Tuesday, June 3, at 11:05 a.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall.

The devotional will be broadcast live on BYU Television, KBYU TV, KBYU FM and byubroadcasting.org. For rebroadcast information, visit byubroadcasting.org.

Thomas teaches courses on civil procedure, federal courts, property, real estate finance, legal research and writing and legal history. A celebrated professor, he was voted law school students as winner of the University Teaching Excellence Award in 1998 and Professor of the Year in 2000 and 2005.

He graduated cum laude from BYU with a bachelor’s in political science and high honors in the University Honors Program, having served as student body attorney general and chairman of the student body committee. He then earned his law degree from Duke University, where he worked on the editorial board of the Duke Law Journal.

After two years of clerkship and private practice, Thomas returned to BYU to teach, where he earned a master’s degree in library sciences and directed the law school library for 16 years.

In addition to his teaching assignments, Thomas also practices law part-time, consulting on expert witness assignments.
