Laura C. Bridgewater to present BYU forum address July 20

Laura C. Bridgewater will present the Brigham Young University forum Tuesday, July 20, at 11:05 a.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall. Bridgewater is a faculty member in the Department of Microbiology and Molecular Biology.

The forum will be broadcast live on the BYU Broadcasting channels and online at byub.org. Rebroadcast and archive information will be available at byub.org/devotionals or speeches.byu.edu.

Bridgewater is a graduate of BYU and received her doctorate in genetics from George Washington University. Since returning to BYU, she has led students in research in the genetics of bone cartilage and joint tissue. She has made important discoveries about specific genes that could help to cure arthritic pain and joint stiffness.

Bridgewater was the recipient of the 2004 Young Scholar Award at BYU and received the College of Life Sciences’ Outstanding Mentor Award in 2008. Most recently she was recognized with the Scholarship Award by the BYU Faculty Women’s Association in 2009.

Green-thumb dynasty: BYU landscaping wins fifth national championship in six years

For the fifth time in six years, BYU students dug, pruned and planted their way to the National Collegiate Landscaping Competition title, the March Madness of college landscaping teams. BYU bested 50 other universities in the four-day event, outscoring the second-place finisher by more than 358 points and breaking the 5000-point total for the first time in the 48-year history of the tournament.
