Laser-guided trucks and cars ‘On Display’ for electrical engineering day

Students from BYU’s electrical engineering program will showcase a variety of techie toys and projects at ECE On Display Thursday, April 1, from 1 to 5 p.m.

The event brings together students and local companies to demonstrate the kinds of endeavors electrical engineers take on every day.

Part of the showcase will pit students’ projects against each other in an obstacle course and a game of laser tag. With only a laser pointer, teams will guide mini monster trucks through a course. For the laser tag game, small race cars mounted with lasers and sensors will seek out and tag competing cars.

The electrical engineering department and visiting companies will have several hands-on displays that guests can try out themselves. Guests may even design custom key chains and see them carved by a laser-cutting machine.

The fair is open to the public and will take place in the Wilkinson Student Center Garden Court.
