KBYU-TV to host digital television test night Sept. 20

On Saturday, Sept. 20, from 7-10 p.m., KBYU-TV (Channel 11) is helping viewers prepare for the change to digital television, which will take place in February 2009.

During this time KBYU-TV will conduct a digital conversion test by shutting off the analog signal so that the only signal being sent out will be digital. This gives viewers the opportunity to find out if they still need to make any changes to their TV setup in preparation for the digital switchover in February 2009.

Viewers are encouraged to contact KBYU-TV at 1-800-298-5298 with questions regarding the digital television transition.

On Feb. 17, 2009, television stations in the United States will no longer broadcast in analog. Those who receive their television over-the-air will need a simple converter box for their analog television sets or they will not receive the digital television signal. The Feb. 17, 2009 digital transition date does not apply to those who watch digital television sets or that subscribe to cable or satellite service providers.

Almost 25 percent of Utah families currently receive their television through free over-the-air signals using an antenna. The Federal Government is offering a program that enables each household to request two free $40 coupons that can be used at retailers to purchase converter boxes. Only one coupon can be used per converter box.

KBYU-TV is broadcast in both analog and digital. Those who purchase a converter box or a digital television set can receive the following KBYU-TV channels: 11.1 – KBYU-TV; 11.2 BYU Television; 11.3 – BYU Television International; 11.4 – KBYU-Create; and, 11.4 KBYU-HD from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. each evening.

A complete listing of programming available on KBYU-TV is available at www.kbyutv.org or by calling 1-800-298-5298. Additional information on the digital television transition is available at www.kbyutv.org/dtv.

February 12, 2026
As video calls, online meetings, and digital messaging become the default for work and social life, new research from BYU psychology professor Dianne Tice shows that something important is lost —shared physical presence. Without co-presence, you lose subtle facial signs, synchronized timing and responses, as well as the spontaneous, informal moments that build relationships.

The awards were started in 2024, and Gill is BYU’s second honoree (following Charles Graham), which goes to dedicated faculty who “represent and reflect all the best attributes that make a college campus a bastion for learning and growth."
