KBYU-FM Classical 89 introducing changes to programming schedule

Beginning Sept. 2, KBYU-FM Classical 89 will introduce changes to its programming schedule involving its original radio interview program, "Thinking Aloud," and its Saturday lineup.

To bring listeners a morning of uninterrupted classical music, "Thinking Aloud" will no longer air weekdays at 11 a.m. but will still air weekdays at 8 p m., and all episodes will be available on classical89.org or as a podcast from iTunes. "Thinking Aloud" can also be heard on its sister station, BYU Radio, available nationally on Sirius XM Satellite Radio channel 143 or at byuradio.org

On Saturdays, opera programming will move from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. with the addition of a new series called "World of Opera." "Classical Guitar Live" will now air at 7 p.m., and "Harmonia" will no longer be part of the Saturday programming.

The opera lineup will include broadcasts from Chicago, Los Angeles, Houston, Bayreuth, the Utah Opera and the Utah Festival Opera and Musical Theatre. "World of Opera" will feature performances from some of the most renowned international venues. The lineup will not, however, include performances from the Met, as the Metropolitan Opera currently offers only live broadcasts and does not permit delayed presentation.

“We know these changes may disappoint some listeners,” said Eric Glissmeyer, Classical 89 station manager. “But we are undertaking these changes after careful deliberation and with the aim of serving our full audience.”

Listeners with concerns or questions may use the “Contact Us” link at the bottom of Classical 89’s home page, classical89.org, or call 1-800-298-5298.
