Jeffrey Shumway in faculty piano recital Oct. 29

Brigham Young University music faculty member Jeffrey Shumway will present a free faculty piano recital at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday (Oct. 29) in the Madsen Recital Hall.

He will be performing works by Beethoven, Chopin, Debussy and Liszt.

Shumway received a bachelor of music degree magna cum laude from BYU in 1975, where he studied piano with Robert Smith and was honored by the faculty as most outstanding pianist and most outstanding musician in successive years.

Following studies at The Juilliard School where he received a master of music degree, he obtained a doctor of music with high distinction from Indiana University. Shumway was also a second-prize winner in the 1977 Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition.

Shumway maintains an active performance career in addition to his teaching and administrative responsibilities. Since he completed his doctorate in 1981, he has performed extensively in solo, chamber and concerto appearances throughout the United States, Canada and Japan.
