Jaren Hinckley to present faculty clarinet recital Oct. 16

Brigham Young University School of Music professor Jaren Hinckley will perform a clarinet recital Thursday, Oct. 16, at 7:30 p.m. in the Madsen Recital Hall. The performance is free and the public is welcome to attend.

Hinckley will be accompanied on the piano by his brother-in-law, software designer Vince Humphries. The pair calls themselves HDUO, and will perform music by Alec Templeton, James Scott Balentine, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Joseph Horovitz, Astor Piazzolla and Claude Bolling.

Hinckley said each piece HDUO will perform is inspired by another musical form, including jazz, tango, and a Scottish folk tune.

"It's going to be a lot of fun to hear all this 'serious' music based on more popular forms," Hinckley said. "I think the audience will come expecting a straight-forward recital, and leave thinking, 'Wow, that was really fun.'"
