J. Ward Moody to give BYU forum address March 25

J. Ward Moody, a professor of physics and astronomy at Brigham Young University, will speak at the university forum Tuesday (March 25) at 11:05 a.m. in the Marriott Center.

Moody will speak on "Exploding Stars, Expanding Universe," and will explain how stars can serve as "mileage markers" to mark a way through space.

"I hope to teach the students an example of how the scientific method works and how our understanding of the universe is increasing," Moody said. "I hope the students will leave with a greater fascination with the universe."

In 1986, Moody received a doctorate at the University of Michigan. He has taught at BYU since 1990.

Moody studies "galaxy voids," which he describes as the holes of the universe. In 1998, while studying the Milky Way galaxy, he discovered an old, carbon-rich star in a group of stars surrounding the galaxy.

The forum will be broadcast live on KBYU-TV (Channel 11), the BYU-Television and BYU-Radio satellite networks and at broadcasting.byu.edu. It will be rebroadcast Sunday, March 30, at 8 p.m. on KBYU-FM, and on Sunday, April 6, at 6 and 11 a.m. on KBYU-TV, and at 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. on BYU-Television.
