J. Arden Hopkin to present songs of Latin America in BYU faculty recital Sept. 10

Faculty artist J. Arden Hopkin of Brigham Young University’s School of Music will perform in the Madsen Recital Hall Thursday, Sept. 10, at 7:30 p.m.

Hopkin, who specializes in vocal music from Spain and Latin America, will be accompanied by Larry Blackburn on the piano and Eric Hansen on the bass. The event is free.

He will be performing a number of works by Mozart, Brahms and Handel. He will also perform Latin American pieces from Venezuela, Peru and Cuba.

As head of Vocal Studies at BYU, Hopkin teaches vocal pedagogy and studio voice. He served as director of the Opera Program for more than 25 years at BYU and previously at Texas Christian University. He also directs and teaches at summer opera training camps in the United States and Canada, most recently at the Crittenden Opera Workshop in Washington, D.C.

BYU’s space ace: Minor planet named in honor of Jani Radebaugh

BYU planetary geology professor Jani Radebaugh’s contributions to planetary science have reached cosmic proportions as she recently received the prestigious honor of having a minor planet named her. The asteroid, previously known as “45690,” now bears the name “45690janiradebaugh” on official NASA/JPL websites.
