J. Arden Hopkin to present BYU faculty recital at 4:30 p.m. Sept. 29

J. Arden Hopkin, a professor in Brigham Young University’s School of Music, will present a faculty recital at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 29, in the Madsen Recital Hall. 

Hopkin will be accompanied by Scott Holden on the piano and Lawrence Green on the guitar. Admission to the recital is free.

The program will include “Liederkreis,” Opus 24 by Robert Schumann, “Siete Canciones Populares Españoles” by Manuel de Falla, two “Songs of the Sea” by Gabriel Fauré, “Three Cantoral Meditations” by Frederick Picket, two arias from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” and four selections from the “Old American Songs” by Aaron Copland.

Hopkin is the head of vocal studies and teaches studio voice and vocal pedagogy in the School of Music. He has also served as the artistic director for the Wasatch Chorale. During his time with the choir, it completed two CDs and performed the Mozart “Requiem” in Carnegie Hall.

He received his bachelor’s degree from BYU, his master’s degree from North Texas State University and his doctorate from the Eastman School of Music at the University of Rochester.
