It's on! BYU-U of U food drive competition runs through Nov. 28

Sponsored by BYU Student Alumni Association

The Brigham Young University Student Alumni Association — determined to beat the University of Utah off the field as well as on — launched its annual food drive competition Friday, Nov. 13. It is now calling upon students, faculty and community members to donate canned foods and money for local food banks.

“It is a great opportunity for Cougar fans to give back to the community in a friendly rivalry between the two schools,” says Heather Hawkins, president of the Student Alumni Association. “No matter what the final score of the game may be, the winners are the community and those in need.”

The food drive takes place every November for two weeks before the big football game that pits the two universities against each other. Bragging rights are for most food gathered and most money received. The contest will continue through game day, Nov. 28.

Cash donations are particularly welcome as a $1 donation enables delivery of 15-25 pounds of food. (Often businesses will give food, but money is needed for transportation.)

Cash donations will be accepted online through Nov. 28 at studentalumni.byu.edu. Donations will also be accepted at the Cougareat, the BYU Bookstore and the BYU Creameries. Bins will be placed throughout campus and at supermarkets throughout Provo to collect nonperishable food items. Community Action Services at 815 S. Freedom Boulevard in Provo will also accept donations on behalf of BYU.
