iOscars short-film festival at BYU March 24 showcases student creativity

The Brigham Young University iOscars short-film festival will showcase 30 three-minute student films Friday, March 24, at 7 p.m. in the Joseph Smith Building Auditorium

Admission is $1 and includes popcorn and soft drinks. All students, faculty and community members are welcome.

Sponsored by the BYU Mac User’s Group, this is the second annual iOscars event. Audience members will vote for their three favorite films, and the top three winners will receive a Mac mini computer, an iPod or an iPod Nano.

Last year, the films were required to be about BYU. This year, there were no specific requirements, other than each film must show a can of Spam. The top films have been comedies and parodies of BYU and college life.

“Our purpose is to show students that technology is available for people to express themselves through film,” said Jason Harrison from the Mac User’s Group. “It is not only for film majors and techies. We also want to showcase the talent and ideas of students at BYU.”
