Inspired works topic of Lee Library lecture Jan. 22

A professor of Germanic and Slavic languages at Brigham Young University will discuss inspired works by both members and nonmembers of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Thursday, Jan. 22, at 2 p.m. in the Harold B. Lee Library auditorium on the BYU campus.

Alan Keele will give a lecture titled "Seek Ye Out of the Best…Libretti?" The lecture is part of the Library's House of Learning lecture series.

"I believe there is ample evidence that inspiration has flowed and continues to flow to many of God's children on earth, irrespective of their current church affiliation," he said.

Keele will discuss one work in particular, an opera libretto written in 1911 by Hugo von Hofmannsthal. He will also comment on "Die Frau ohne Schatten" (The Woman Without a Shadow), an opera by Richard Strauss.

The lecture is free and students, faculty and the community are invited to attend. For more information, call Mike Hooper at (801) 422-6687.
