Indian ambassador at BYU lecture series Dec. 10

His Excellency Lalit Mansingh, ambassador to the United States from India, will address "India-U.S. Relations" on Wednesday, Dec. 10, at noon in 238 Herald R. Clark Building on the Brigham Young University campus.

Mansingh, who became ambassador in 2001, has previously served as India's foreign secretary and high commissioner to the United Kingdom.

Earlier he had been high commissioner to Nigeria (1993–95) and prior to that deputy chief of mission in Washington, D.C. (1989–92), following a distinguished career in the Indian Foreign Service since June 1963.

He was also ambassador to the United Arab Emirates (1980–83), and he has served in various diplomatic capacities in Geneva, Afghanistan, and Belgium.

At Foreign Service headquarters, Mansingh was dean of the Foreign Service Institute and served as director-general of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations and in the Ministry of Finance.

Mansingh graduated with honors in history and obtained his master's degree in political science.

The International Forum Series is open to the public. This is the final lecture of the semester, and it will be webcast live online and archived at http://kennedy.byu.edu/events.

Lectures will resume on Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004, and are sponsored by the David M. Kennedy Center for International Studies.
