Hungary's ambassador to U.S. to visit BYU campus Oct. 13

András Simonyi, Hungary's ambassador to the United States, will deliver a Global Focus Lecture on "Hungary-U.S. Relations" at noon Wednesday, Oct. 13, in the Harold B. Lee Library auditorium on the Brigham Young University campus.

The ambassador since 2002, Simonyi was born in Budapest and grew up under Soviet rule. He is a frequent lecturer on security issues, trans-Atlantic relations, the problems of military reform and the NATO expansion.

Simonyi also serves as vice president of the Hungarian Atlantic Council, co-founder of the Center for Euro-Atlantic Integration and Democracy and president of the Danish-Hungarian Friendship Society.

A 1975 graduate of Karl Marx University of Economics (now Budapest University), Simonyi holds a Ph.D. in political science and wrote his thesis on Denmark's security policy in the twentieth century.
