“Harp Tangos with 'The Light of the Silent Stars'” at BYU March 25

Featuring BYU Harp Ensemble, Ballroom Dance Company, U of U Singers

The Brigham Young University School of Music will present “Harp Tangos with 'The Light of the Silent Stars,'” featuring the BYU Harp Ensemble, members of the BYU Ballroom Dance Team and the University of Utah Singers, on Saturday, March 25, at 7:30 p.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall.

Tickets are $9 or $6 with a BYU or student ID. For tickets, call the Fine Arts Tickets Office at (801) 422-4322 or visit performances.byu.edu.

The BYU Harp Ensemble, directed by Anamae Anderson, will perform “Pizzicato Polka” by Johann and Josef Strauss, “Italian Polka” by Sergei Rachmaninoff and “Anitra’s Dance” by Edvard Grieg.

As the BYU Harp Ensemble performs tango music, members of the BYU Ballroom Dance Team, directed by Sharon Holman, will perform around them. The Harp Ensemble will play “Palomita Blanca” by Anselmo Aieta, “Milonga de Mis Amores” by Pedro Laurenz, “Oblivion” by Astor Piazzolla, “Desde el Alma” by Rosita Melo and “Gallo Ciego” by Agustin Bardi.

Conducted by Brady Allred, the University of Utah Singers will perform an a cappella number followed by the evening’s highlight, “The Light of the Silent Stars” by Valeri Kikta. The number will feature 12 harps as well as vocal soloists Alisa Thompson and Tyler Nelson.

BYU’s world-class pipe organ is the ‘crown jewel’ of the new Concert Hall

If you haven’t experienced the pipe organ in the BYU Music Building yet, you’re in for a treat. With 4,613 pipes and 81 ranks (sets of pipes), it’s the third largest organ in Utah and the only one with two consoles. Organists can play from a console located in the center of the pipework facade or from a movable stage console.
