Guest bassoonist Richard Beene plans BYU performance March 9

Guest artist Richard Beene will perform on the bassoon in the Madsen Recital Hall Friday, March 9, at 7:30 p.m. A professor of bassoon at the University of Michigan, Beene is in demand as a teacher, soloist, chamber musician and orchestral performer.

Tickets are $10 or $6 with a BYU or student ID. For ticket information, contact the Fine Arts Ticket Office by calling (801) 422-7664 or by visiting performances.byu.edu.

Beene will perform with Jeffrey Shumway on piano and will be assisted by Amie Reynolds, Christian Smith and Kathryn Smith on bassoon. The concert will feature selections by Camille Saint-Saëns, Carl Maria von Weber and Ralph Vaughan Williams.

He has completed residencies with the New York Philharmonic and the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, has had numerous guest appearances with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and has toured Europe as a soloist with the American Sinfonietta.

While maintaining his teaching schedule, Beene also holds the position of principal bassoonist with the Toledo Symphony Orchestra.
