Guest artists to perform free oboe-bassoon recital at BYU Sept. 16-17

Special guests oboist Nancy Ambrose King and bassoonist Jeffrey Lyman will perform during the “Double Reed Round-Up” at Brigham Young University Friday and Saturday, Sept. 16-17, at 7:30 p.m. in the Madsen Recital Hall at Brigham Young University.  Admission is free.

The program consists of six pieces by six different composers, including a classical sonata by French composer Antoine Dard and a contemporary piece by Chinese composer Xinyan Li.

King is the first-prize winner of the Third New York International Competition for Solo Oboists held in 1995. She has appeared as soloist throughout the United States and abroad, including performances with the St. Petersburg Philharmonic, the Janacek Philharmonic and the Tokyo Chamber Orchestra. She served as the first female president of the International Double Reed Society.

Lyman has established himself as one of the premier performers, teachers and historians of the bassoon in the United States. He has been associate professor of bassoon at the University of Michigan since 2006. Lyman is also an author and advocate of new music and has many publications and commissions to his credit, including frequent contributions to the publications of the International Double Reed Society.
