Guest artist David Vining will perform trombone recital at BYU Jan. 19

The Brigham Young University School of Music will welcome guest artist David Vining for a trombone recital Thursday, Jan. 19, at 7:30 p.m. in the Karl G. Maeser Building auditorium on the south end of campus.

Admission is free and the public is invited to attend.

Vining will be accompanied by Amanda Nixon on the piano.

His recital will feature Sonata, mvt. 3 by Eric Ewazen, Sequenza V by Luciano Berio and “Mission Red” by Michael Davis.

Vining will also perform Variations on “The Carnival of Venice” by Jean-Baptiste Arban arranged by Donald Hunsberger.

Vining has earned national and international recognition as winner of many solo competitions including the American Waterways Wind Orchestra Trombone Solo Competition and the International Trombone Association’s Frank Smith Scholarship Competition.

Vining toured the country as trombonist with the Chestnut Brass Company for five years.

In addition to his solo and chamber ensemble experience, Vining has performed orchestrally with the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Philly Pops Orchestra, the Kansas City Symphony and the Kansas City Camerata. He has degrees from Florida State University and Bowling Green State University and is a former faculty member at Temple University and the University of Kansas.
