Grammy-nominated St. Petersburg Quartet at BYU Feb. 1

The Grammy-nominated St. Petersburg String Quartet, performing musical numbers by Beethoven, Nadarejshvili and Prokofiev, will be guests of the Performing Arts Series at Brigham Young University, Saturday (Feb. 1) in the Madsen Recital Hall at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets at $9 for the general public and $3 off with a student or faculty ID are available in the Fine Arts Ticket Office, (801) 378-4322 or at http://www.byu.edu/hfac.

The St. Petersburg String Quartet will also offer a free master class on Saturday (Feb. 1) at 2 p.m. in the Madsen Recital Hall.

Members of the quartet include Alla Aranovskaya, first violin; Aleksey Koptev, viola; Matvey Lapin, second violin and Leonid Shukaev, cello.

In January 2002, the St. Petersburg String Quartet won a Chamber Music/WQRX Record Award for Best Chamber Music Album of 2001. The ensemble was honored for its Hyperion recording of the Shostakovich String Quartets Nos. 5, 7 and 8.

The St. Petersburg String Quartet is currently the quartet-in-residence at Oberlin Conservatory of Music in Ohio, a position they have held for the last four years. They are represented by Lisa Sapinkopf Artists.
