German Consul General to speak at BYU Jan. 11

Wolfgang Drautz, German Consul General in Los Angeles, will be speaking at 238 Herald R. Clark Building at Brigham Young University Monday, Jan. 11, at 11 a.m. His subject will be “End of the ‘Grand Coalition’: Germany’s New Government and Global Implications for its Neighbors, NATO and Nuclear Strategy.”

A native of Voelklingen, Germany, he studied law in Saarbrücken and Freiburg. He graduated from the School of Public Administration in Speyer, Germany, in 1972 and attended École Nationale d'Administration in Paris from 1974 to 1975.

Drautz has had a distinguished career in public service since entering the Foreign Service in 1976, with embassy appointments in London and Moscow, assignments with the Federal Foreign Office and an assignment with NATO in Brussels. Drautz was appointed Consul General in Los Angeles in July 2009, having previously served as Consul General in Chicago since 2005.
