Gary Browning to deliver P.A. Christensen Lecture Feb. 17

Gary Browning, a professor of Russian, will deliver this year's P.A. Christensen Humanities Lecture Thursday, Feb. 17, at 11 a.m. in 2084 Jesse Knight Building at Brigham Young University.

He will discuss "Tolstoy and Dostoyevsky: Big Questions, Big Ideas." The event is free and the public is welcome.

The annual lecture, sponsored by the College of Humanities, honors the memory of Parley A. Christensen, a BYU English professor from 1927 to 1965. He was known widely not only a teacher and scholar but as a lecturer and writer, and was chair of the BYU English Department for 20 years.

Browning, the first mission president in the former Soviet Union for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, received a master's degree from Syracuse University and a Ph.D. from Harvard. He specializes in 19th and 20th century Russian literature.
