Fulbright academy utilizes expertise of BYU professor of nursing

Lynn Clark Callister, a professor in the College of Nursing at Brigham Young University, was recently appointed to the International Advisory Council of the Fulbright Academy of Science and Technology.

Created by and for Fulbright scholars, FAST brings the knowledge and expertise of Fulbrighters to bear on critical global issues in public health, science literacy, business innovation and economic development.

A 2004 Fulbright Scholarship recipient, Callister spent several months in Russia and the Ukraine as a consultant on curriculum and research. She provided educational support in maternal and newborn nursing, women’s health and nursing research at the St. Petersburg Mechnikov State Medical Academy.

Books, CDs and teaching materials were donated to Russian universities by BYU College of Nursing faculty over the past several years, and when Callister returns to Russia this summer, she will again deliver donated educational materials to her colleagues there.

Callister’s research on women’s health and childbirth has been extended to many nations, including Armenia, Ukraine, Russia, Finland, the Netherlands, the Peoples Republic of China, Jordan, Guatemala, Canada, South Africa and the United States.

She is a manuscript/textbook reviewer for several medical and academic entities and serves on numerous journal editorial boards. She is the global health and nursing columnist for “MCN: The American Journal of Maternal Child Nursing” and is vice-chair of the American Academy of Nursing’s Global Nursing and Health Expert Panel.
