Fred E. Woods to deliver BYU devotional Sept. 23

Fred E. Woods, professor of Church history and doctrine, will present a Brigham Young University devotional address at the Marriott Center Tuesday, Sept. 23, at 11:05 a.m. The devotional will be broadcast live on the BYU networks. For rebroadcast information, visit byubroadcasting.org.

Woods is a native of Southern California who converted to the LDS Church when he was 19. Following a mission to Australia, Woods studied at BYU and the University of Utah. For the past three years he has held the Richard L. Evans Professorship of Religious Understanding at BYU.

After earning his Ph.D in Middle East studies, Woods spent 12 years teaching in LDS seminary and institute programs in Utah County, Southern California and Colorado.

Woods has taught at BYU since 1998. His research interests include the pioneer migration of the 1800s, Americans incarcerated for their religious beliefs and the history of the Church in the Hawaiian Islands.

Green-thumb dynasty: BYU landscaping wins fifth national championship in six years

For the fifth time in six years, BYU students dug, pruned and planted their way to the National Collegiate Landscaping Competition title, the March Madness of college landscaping teams. BYU bested 50 other universities in the four-day event, outscoring the second-place finisher by more than 358 points and breaking the 5000-point total for the first time in the 48-year history of the tournament.
