Four operas for children to be featured at BYU Feb. 17-20

Vocal students from Brigham Young University's School of Music will present four one-act opera scenes written for children Wednesday through Saturday, Feb. 17-20, at 7:30 p.m. in the Madsen Recital Hall, Harris Fine Arts Center.

Tickets are $6 and can be purchased online at byuarts.com, by phone at (801) 422-4322 or in person at the Harris Fine Arts Center Ticket Office. This event was originally called "Opera Scenes" in previous publicity.

Operas featured in the program include “Chicken Little,” “The Ugly Duckling” and “The Little Red Hen” by Thomas Benjamin and “The Wolf and the Lamb” by David E. Chávez. All four operas will be performed each night.

Director for the event is Lawrence Vincent, accompanied by Christopher Koelzer, with Barbara Allen as vocal coach.

Green-thumb dynasty: BYU landscaping wins fifth national championship in six years

For the fifth time in six years, BYU students dug, pruned and planted their way to the National Collegiate Landscaping Competition title, the March Madness of college landscaping teams. BYU bested 50 other universities in the four-day event, outscoring the second-place finisher by more than 358 points and breaking the 5000-point total for the first time in the 48-year history of the tournament.
