Former first minister of Scottish Parliament to speak at BYU Oct. 4

The former first minister of the Scottish Parliament will present a Global Awareness lecture at Brigham Young University on Wednesday, Oct. 4 at noon in 238 Herald R. Clark Building.

Henry McLeish will address “New Scotland: the Challenges of the 21st Century.” After 30 years as an elected official, he retired from public office in 2003 and has since presented lectures at many universities, served as a distinguished scholar-in-residence at the European Union Center at the University of Oklahoma and is a visiting professor of law and liberal arts at the University of Arkansas.

He was instrumental in helping shape Scotland’s first Parliament in almost 300 years. McLeish became first minister of Scotland in 2000, taking responsibility for Scotland’s emerging role on the European and world stage.

This lecture will be archived online. For more information on David M. Kennedy Center events, see the calendar online at kennedy.byu.edu.
