Food Fight! Annual BYU/University of Utah rivalry begins

It’s time to open your wallets and to be generous with your canned goods for the annual Brigham Young University/University of Utah food fight. Donations are accepted until the football game Saturday, Nov. 24.

In one of the friendlier rivalries between BYU and the U of U, the annual food fight raises money for Utah’s hungry. All proceeds will be given to the Community Action Food Bank. That food will also be distributed to other pantries in Utah, Summit and Wasatch counties.

Beginning Saturday, Nov. 10, donation bins will be placed throughout campus as well as at the Macey’s store in Provo.

Y Marks for $1 each will be available at the BYU Bookstore, the BYU creameries and Del Taco or may be purchased online at studentalumni.byu.edu.

The Gordon B. Hinckley Alumni and Vistors Center on the BYU campus will also accept money and cash donations at its tailgate party that begins three hours prior to the Nov. 24 game. (Please note that the location is the Hinckley Center; donations will not be accepted at LaVell Edwards Stadium).

“We especially like money donations because they can be brokered for better deals with businesses and to cover transportation costs for donated food,” says Curtis Isaak, program administrator. “Community Action Services figures it can buy 15 to 20 pounds of food for every dollar raised.”
