Flag lowering, 21-gun salute part of Patriot Day on BYU campus

Utah Gov. Gary R. Herbert has authorized the lowering of the Flag of the United States of America and the Flag of the State of Utah on Sept. 11, 2013, in observance of “Patriot Day,” in honor of the lives lost on 9/11 and as a tribute to the heroes who came to their country’s aid.

In accordance with Gov. Herbert’s order, BYU will fly the ASB Flag of the United States at half-staff from sunrise until sunset Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2013.

As part of BYU’s Patriot Day observance, the BYU Air Force ROTC will also perform a 21-gun salute Wednesday morning, from 9:50 a.m. to 10 a.m., near the ASB flag pole. Members of the ROTC will also participate in a 24-hour vigil at the flag.

You can read the governor's order.
