First non-Japanese to serve as CEO of Japanese bank at BYU Nov. 8

The first non-Japanese to serve as CEO of a Japanese bank, L. Todd Budge, president of Tokyo Star Bank Ltd., will present "Transformation Strategy: Leadership and Profitability" Monday, Nov. 8 at 10 a.m. in 238 Herald R. Clark Building at Brigham Young University.

In March 2002, Budge joined Tokyo Star Bank, Ltd., created from the takeover of a failed Japanese institution purchased by the Lone Star Group. After restoring operations to solid profitability as chief operating officer, Budge was appointed president and chief executive officer in June 2003.

Fluent in Japanese, Budge has worked in Japan for more than 14 years. Initially serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Southern Japan, Budge returned in 1985 as a consultant for Bain and Company and later worked in financial services for Citibank.

Since restoring the Japanese bank to profitability, Budge has appeared on Reuters, CNN, Bloomberg, CNBC and the BBC.
