Film producer to discuss nation building in Afghanistan

Brigham Young University will host a special guest speaker as part of the Global Focus Lecture Series Wednesday, May 4, at noon in 238 Herald R. Clark Building.

Dodge Billingsley, documentary film producer and director will discuss, "That Other War: Nation Building in Afghanistan."

In the fall of 2001, he spent several months working in Afghanistan close to the battle for Mazar-i-Sharif, documenting the experience with director Paul Yule in the "House of War."

Billingsley's company, Combat Films and Research, produced a series of five films and a panel discussion, "Beyond the Border," for the David M. Kennedy Center that aired on KBYU last fall and again this spring.

Having produced and directed documentaries on location from the United Arab Emirates to Africa and from Abkhazia to China, Billingsley carries a unique perspective of the conflicts plaguing the world.

Billingsley received a bachelor's degree in history from Columbia University and a master's degree in War Studies from London's Kings College.

This lecture will be archived online. For more information on Kennedy Center events, see the calendar and News and Events online at kennedy.byu.edu. For more information regarding this lecture contact Lee Simons at (801) 422-2652.
