Explore space at BYU's Astrofest event

Astrofest: Family Astronomy Event

  • Date: Saturday, May 16
  • Time: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Location: Eyring Science Center, BYU 
  • Cost: Free

BYU's Eyring Science Center transforms into a space exploration center featuring launching rockets, flames and explosions at Astrofest, a family astronomy event on Saturday, May 16, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Astrofest will provide engaging learning activities for families in the community to introduce children to the world of physics and astronomy.

Centered around several learning activities and adventures in astronomy, Astrofest will provide a hands-on exploration of the science of space. Activities include: 

  • build and launch rockets
  • visit the Royden G. Derrick Planetarium for stargazing shows
  • demonstrations by acoustic students examining the physics of sound
  • watch dancing flames and exploding balloons
  • earn an astronomy patch as they complete activities and experiments

Families and guests of all ages from the community are invited to participate.
