"Evening of Percussion" at BYU Nov. 19

Brigham Young University will be hosting “An Evening of Percussion” Friday, Nov. 19, at 7:30 p.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall.

Tickets for the event range in price between $6 and $10. They can be purchased at the Fine Arts Ticket Office, (801) 422-4322, or online at byuarts.com.

The concert will feature all of BYU’s percussion groups — Panoramic Steel, Percussion Ensemble, Gamelan Bintang Wahyu and the Cougar Marching Band Drum Line.

The Drum Line will begin the concert by performing a number of toe-tapping beats that are usually performed before BYU football games. The drum line is directed by John Black and Tanner Thorson.

Next, the Percussion Ensemble will perform “Dusk” by David Samuels and “I Ching” by Dwayne Rice. "I Ching,” or “Book of Changes,” is an ancient Chinese book of wisdom derived from the popular concept of Yin and Yang. They are directed by Ron Brough.

Gamelan Bintang Wahyu, directed by Jeremy Grimshaw, is Utah’s first and only Balinese gamelan ensemble. The group includes 16 xylophones, chimes, gongs, bamboo flutes and drums. They will perform a number of pieces from Bali.

Last on stage will be Panoramic Steel. They are directed by Ron Brough and will be performing “El Montuno” by Pierre LeDuc, “Le Village St. Jean” by Tom Miller and “Chippin’ on da Drag” by Gary Gibson.

For more information, contact Ron Brough at (801) 422-3320 or e-mail ronald_brough@byu.edu.
