Evening of Concertos features top BYU student soloists March 16

Award-winning student soloists from Brigham Young University’s School of Music and the BYU Philharmonic will present an “Evening of Concertos” Tuesday, March 16, at 7:30 p.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall.

Tickets are $11, $10 or $8 with a BYU or student ID and can be purchased at the Fine Arts Ticket Office, arts.byu.edu or by calling (801) 422-4322.

The recital, conducted by Kory Katseanes, will include movements from seven individual concertos:

• Duet from Guiseppi Verdi’s “Rigoletto” featuring Amy and Shea Owens.

• Bruce Broughton’s tuba concerto with Brenden McQuay.

• Edward Elgar’s cello concerto with Ashley Fillmore.

• Sergei Prokofiev’s piano concerto No. 3 with Christine Messick.

• Eugene Goossens’ oboe concerto with Natasha Wallin.

• Erich Wolfgang Korngold’s violin concerto with Carrie Sue Green.

• Samuel Barber’s piano concerto with Jackie Bodily.

Green-thumb dynasty: BYU landscaping wins fifth national championship in six years

For the fifth time in six years, BYU students dug, pruned and planted their way to the National Collegiate Landscaping Competition title, the March Madness of college landscaping teams. BYU bested 50 other universities in the four-day event, outscoring the second-place finisher by more than 358 points and breaking the 5000-point total for the first time in the 48-year history of the tournament.
