European Parliament editor to give BYU address Nov. 3

Pavel Černoch, an editor for the European Parliament, will be speaking at Brigham Young University Wednesday, Nov. 3, at noon in 238 Herald R. Clark Building as part of the David M. Kennedy Center lecture series.

He will speak about “Closing the Gap between People and Politics—Lessons from a European Experience.”

With expertise in governance, management and education, Černoch previously served as a counselor with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Czech Republic and  as a policy research fellow with the Open Society Institute. His research focused on European Union relations with southeast Europe and the Black Sea Region.

He has been a visiting professor at Grinnell College in Iowa, where he taught European politics. He also taught European integration courses at the prestigious Jean Monnet Centre of Charles University in Prague, where he completed his dissertation on the impact of E.U. enlargement.

As a Czech citizen, Černoch grew up in Germany between Nuremberg, Marienbad and Prague and  was an active participant in the 1989 events that led to democracy for the Czech Republic.

The lecture will be archived at kennedy.byu.edu/archive. For more information, contact Lee Simons at (801) 422-2652 or lee_simons@byu.edu.
