European Constitution topic of Kennedy Center lecture Oct. 5

Craig Parsons, an assistant professor of political science at the University of Oregon, will speak on “The European Constitution and the Trouble with Democracy” Wednesday, Oct. 5, at noon, in 238 Herald R. Clark Building for a Brigham Young University Global Awareness Lecture.

Parsons’ research interests include comparative politics, political economy, European politics, European Union, culture, ideas and democratization.

Before joining the University of Oregon faculty in 2004, Parsons was an assistant professor of political science at the Maxwell School of Syracuse University.

His first book, “A Certain Idea of Europe,” focuses on how certain political principles out-battled others in the construction of the European Union. “Logics of Explanation,” his second book, explains how to organize political theories.
