Elder Ulisses Soares to speak at Nov. 5 BYU devotional

Elder Ulisses Soares, a member of the Presidency of the Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, will speak Tuesday, Nov. 5, at 11:05 a.m. in the Marriott Center for a Brigham Young University campus devotional.

The devotional will be broadcast live on the BYU Broadcasting channels and online at byutv.org. Rebroadcast information can be found through byutv.org/schedule. Archived devotionals are available at speeches.byu.edu.

Elder Soares was called to serve as a member of the First Quorum of the Seventy in April 2005 at age 46. He has served as a counselor and as president of the Brazil South Area and as a counselor in the Africa Southeast Area.

His professional career has included being an accountant and auditor for a multinational corporation in Brazil and as the director of temporal affairs in the Church area office in São Paulo, Brazil. At the time of his call to be a General Authority, he was on a training assignment for Physical Facilities/Welfare Services for the Church in Salt Lake City.

During his many years of church activity, Elder Soares has been a full-time missionary in the Brazil Rio de Janeiro Mission, elders quorum president, bishop’s counselor, high councilor, stake executive secretary, regional welfare agent, stake president and president of the Portugal Porto Mission (2000-2003).

Elder Soares received a bachelor’s degree in accounting and economics from Pontificia Catholic University in 1985. Later, he received an MBA from the National Institute of Postgraduate Study.
