Elder Russell M. Nelson at BYU devotional Dec. 10

Elder Russell M. Nelson, a member of the Quorum of the Twelve of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, will speak to Brigham Young University students Tuesday (Dec. 10) at 11:05 a.m. in the Marriott Center.

The devotional will be broadcast live on KBYU-TV (Channel 11), the BYU-Television and BYU-Radio satellite networks and at broadcasting.byu.edu. It will be rebroadcast Sunday, Dec. 15, at 6 a.m. and 11 a.m. on KBYU-TV, on BYU-Television at 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., and on KBYU-FM at 8 p.m.

Elder Nelson, an internationally renowned heart surgeon and medical researcher, received his bachelor's and medical degrees from the University of Utah. He completed his residency in surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston and at the University of Minnesota, where he was awarded his doctoral degree in 1954.

In addition to professional research positions, Elder Nelson directed the Thoracic Surgery Residency at the University of Utah and chaired the Division of Thoracic Surgery at LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City.

Author of many publications and textbooks, Elder Nelson has traveled extensively to share his medical knowledge with the world.

Elder Nelson was called to the Quorum of the Twelve on April 7, 1984 after having served in several other Church callings.
