Elder Robert D. Hales to speak at BYU devotional Sept. 14

Elder Robert D. Hales, a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, will address Brigham Young University students, staff and faculty in a devotional Tuesday, Sept. 14, at 11:05 a.m. in the Marriott Center.

The devotional will be broadcast live on the BYU Broadcasting channels and at byub.org. Visit byub.org/devotionals or speeches.byu.edu for rebroadcast and archive information.

He was sustained as a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles in 1994. He received his call as a General Authority in 1975, serving as an Assistant to the Twelve and later as a member of the First Quorum of the Seventy. He also served as Presiding Bishop of the Church from 1985 until his calling to the Apostleship.

Prior to his call to full-time church service, Elder Hales had a distinguished business and military career, serving in executive positions with three major national companies and as a U.S. Air Force fighter pilot. He is a graduate of the University of Utah and received a Master of Business Administration degree from Harvard.

Elder Hales last spoke at BYU in a 2009 Church Educational System fireside, and the most recent devotional he gave on campus was in November 2005.
