Elder Merrill J. Bateman to speak at CES fireside March 5

Elder Merrill J. Bateman of the Presidency of the Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will speak at a Church Educational System Fireside Sunday, March 5, at 6 p.m. in the Marriott Center at Brigham Young University.

The fireside will be broadcast live on the BYU-Television and BYU-Radio satellite networks and at byubroadcasting.org. Rebroadcast information is available by visiting byubroadcasting.org.

Elder Bateman was called to the First Quorum of the Seventy in November 1995. He also served as the 11th president of BYU from January 1996 to May 2003.

Previously, he served as Presiding Bishop of the Church of Jesus Christ and as a member of the Second Quorum of the Seventy where he served as president of the Asia North Area.

Elder Bateman received a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Utah and a doctoral degree in economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
