Elder L. Tom Perry to speak at Oct. 30 BYU devotional

Elder L. Tom Perry, a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, will speak at a Brigham Young University campus devotional on Tuesday, Oct. 30, at 11:05 a.m. in the Marriott Center.

The devotional will be shown live on BYU Television, KBYU TV, KBYU FM and byubroadcasting.org. For rebroadcast information, visit byubroadcasting.org.

Elder Perry was ordained an Apostle in 1974. He began his Church service in 1942 when he served as a missionary in the Northern States. He later served as a bishopric member, stake presidency counselor, stake high councilor, president of the Boston stake and assistant to the Quorum of the Twelve.

After his mission and two years in the Pacific with the Marines, Elder Perry studied at Utah State University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in finance in 1949. He spent his career in the retail business, serving as vice president and treasurer for companies in Idaho, California, New York and Massachusetts.

Green-thumb dynasty: BYU landscaping wins fifth national championship in six years

For the fifth time in six years, BYU students dug, pruned and planted their way to the National Collegiate Landscaping Competition title, the March Madness of college landscaping teams. BYU bested 50 other universities in the four-day event, outscoring the second-place finisher by more than 358 points and breaking the 5000-point total for the first time in the 48-year history of the tournament.
