Elder Joseph B. Wirthlin at BYU devotional Jan. 21

Elder Joseph B. Wirthlin of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will address Brigham Young University students at the weekly devotional Tuesday (Jan. 21) at 11:05 a.m. in the Marriott Center.

The devotional will be broadcast live on KBYU-TV (Channel 11), KBYU-FM (89.1), on the BYU-Television and BYU-Radio satellite networks and at broadcasting.byu.edu. It will be rebroadcast Sunday, Jan. 26, at 6 and 11 a.m. on KBYU-TV, on BYU-Television at 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., and on KBYU-FM at 8 p.m.

Elder Wirthlin was ordained an apostle of the Church on Oct. 9, 1986. He was born in Salt Lake City to Joseph L. Wirthlin, then the Presiding Bishop of the Church, and earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Utah in business administration. He was a prominent businessman before his call as a general authority and served as president of a trade association in Utah.

After a mission to Germany, Austria and Switzerland in the 1930s, Elder Wirthlin served in a variety of ward and stake leadership positions. In 1971, he was called to be first counselor in the Sunday School General Presidency where he served until he became an Assistant to the Twelve in 1975.
