Elder Donald L. Hallstrom to address BYU devotional Feb. 12

Elder Donald L. Hallstrom, a member of the Presidency of the Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, will speak at the Brigham Young University devotional, Tuesday, Feb. 12, at 11:05 a.m. in the Marriott Center.

The devotional will be broadcast live on the BYU Broadcasting channels and online at byutv.org. Rebroadcast and archive information will be available at byutv.org or speeches.byu.edu.

Elder Hallstrom was named a member of the Presidency of the Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on April 4, 2009. He was called to the First Quorum of the Seventy on April 1, 2000. At the time of his call as a General Authority, he was serving as an area authority Seventy in the North America West Area.

From 2005 to 2009, Elder Hallstrom was a member of the Asia Area presidency, headquartered in Hong Kong, concluding that service as the area president. From 2000 to 2003, he was in the Asia North Area, residing in Tokyo, Japan, also serving as the area president. Additionally, he served as executive director of the Church Audiovisual Department, as a member of the Young Men general presidency, and in the North America Central Area presidency.

Elder Hallstrom graduated from BYU with a bachelor's degree in economics. Before he was called to full-time church service in 2000, he was president of The Hallstrom Group, Inc., a real estate consulting and appraisal organization based in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Green-thumb dynasty: BYU landscaping wins fifth national championship in six years

For the fifth time in six years, BYU students dug, pruned and planted their way to the National Collegiate Landscaping Competition title, the March Madness of college landscaping teams. BYU bested 50 other universities in the four-day event, outscoring the second-place finisher by more than 358 points and breaking the 5000-point total for the first time in the 48-year history of the tournament.
