Elder Bruce C. Hafen to deliver annual Maxwell Institute lecture March 21 at BYU

“Disciple-Scholarship in the Lord's Kingdom”

ElderBruce C. Hafen, a member of the First Quorum of the Seventy of The Church ofJesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and author of “A Disciple's Life: TheBiography of Neal A. Maxwell,” will speak on “Disciple-Scholarship in theLord's Kingdom” during the second annual Neal A. Maxwell Institute forReligious Scholarship Lecture Friday, March 21, at 7 p.m. in 2258-2260Conference Center at Brigham Young University.

Elder Hafen was sustained a member of the FirstQuorum of the Seventy on April 6, 1996. He has served as president of theEurope Central Area, in the Area Presidencies of the North America Central,Australia/New Zealand, and Pacific areas, and in several administrativepositions for the Church. He was also president of Ricks College — now BYU-Idaho— for seven years and was BYU Provost.

He received his undergraduate degree from BYUbefore earning his juris doctorate from the University of Utah. He thenpracticed law for four years in Salt Lake City, after which he became assistantto the president of BYU and helped create the J. Reuben Clark Law School.

Named in 2006 in honor of the former member of theQuorum of the Twelve Apostles, the Maxwell Institute includes the Foundationfor Ancient Research and Mormon Studies, the Center for the Preservation ofAncient Religious Texts, BYU Studies and the Middle Eastern Texts Initiative.

BYU’s world-class pipe organ is the ‘crown jewel’ of the new Concert Hall

If you haven’t experienced the pipe organ in the BYU Music Building yet, you’re in for a treat. With 4,613 pipes and 81 ranks (sets of pipes), it’s the third largest organ in Utah and the only one with two consoles. Organists can play from a console located in the center of the pipework facade or from a movable stage console.
