Deloitte executive to discuss arts management during BYU lecture March 6

On Thursday, March 6, the Brigham Young University School of Music will host a forum featuring Blaine Nelson, chairman of the board of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra Board of Governors and a managing partner for Deloitte.

His presentation, “With an Eye from the Sublime to the Bottom Line: How Arts Organizations Can Achieve Artistic Excellence and Sustain Financial Stability,” will begin at 10 a.m. in the Madsen Recital Hall of the Harris Fine Arts Center. A question-and-answer session will follow in E-400 Harris Fine Arts Center.

As the managing partner for Deloitte in North Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas, Nelson is a respected businessman as well as a committed advocate for classical music. At a time when many arts organizations find themselves in dire financial straits, Nelson has helped the Dallas Symphony Orchestra become the only major metropolitan orchestra in the country to boast a balanced budget for four consecutive years.

Nelson served for several years as a member of the Board of Directors for the Utah Symphony prior to his relocation to Texas nearly 10 years ago. His combination of artistic passion and executive experience gives him firsthand knowledge of how large arts organizations achieve their artistic goals while remaining financially viable.
