Dead Sea Scrolls expert to present devotional July 31

Donald W. Parry, professor of Hebrew Bible and Dead Sea Scrolls, will give an address titled “Angels, Chariots, and the Lord of Hosts” at the weekly Brigham Young University devotional Tuesday, July 31, at 11:05 a.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall.

It will be broadcast live on KBYU-TV (Channel 11), BYUtv, KBYU-FM (89.1), BYU-Radio and at byutv.org, as well as on campus in the Joseph Smith Building auditorium and the Varsity Theater in the Wilkinson Student Center. For rebroadcast and reprint information, visit byutv.org or speeches.byu.edu.

Parry served as a member of the board of directors of BYU's Institute for the Study and Preservation of Ancient Religious Texts from 1987 to 2005. He has served as a member of the International Team of Translators of the Dead Sea Scrolls since 1994.

He is also a member of several other professional organizations, including the Princeton Dead Sea Scrolls Society, Princeton, N.J.; the International Organization for the Study of the Old Testament, Groningen, The Netherlands; Society for Biblical Literature, Atlanta, Ga.; and the National Association of Professors of Hebrew, Madison, Wis. 

Parry has written or edited more than 27 books, 10 of which pertain to the Dead Sea Scrolls.
