David Dearden featured at March 31 BYU devotional

David Dearden, a professor in the Brigham Young University Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, will speak at a university devotional Tuesday, March 31, at 11:05 a.m. in the Marriott Center.

Dearden’s research interests include gas phase ion chemistry and the use of Fourier transform mass spectrometry to characterize prototypical molecular machines. He seeks to understand complex chemical processes by studying them in the gas phase.

After postdoctoral study at the National Institute of Standards and Technology, he joined the faculty of the University of Texas at Arlington, where he won a National Science Foundation Young Investigator award. He came to BYU in 1994.

He received a bachelor’s degree from BYU and a doctorate from the California Institute of Technology.

BYU’s space ace: Minor planet named in honor of Jani Radebaugh

BYU planetary geology professor Jani Radebaugh’s contributions to planetary science have reached cosmic proportions as she recently received the prestigious honor of having a minor planet named her. The asteroid, previously known as “45690,” now bears the name “45690janiradebaugh” on official NASA/JPL websites.
