Dancers' Company welcomes Vocal Point, Jon Schmidt to "Dance in Concert" Jan. 25-27

This year's "Dance in Concert" will combine the 15-member Dancers' Company — Brigham Young University's top modern dance group — with state of the art lighting, pianist Jon Schmidt and BYU a cappella group Vocal Point Thursday through Saturday, Jan. 25-27, at 7:30 p.m. in the Pardoe Theatre, with a matinee at 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the Fine Arts Ticket Office by calling (801) 422-7664 or by visiting performances.byu.edu.

"Video, '40s music and wonderful partnering will take us on a sentimental journey," said Dancers' Company artistic director Rebecca Wright Phillips, describing a tribute piece designed by faculty member Pamela Musil that focuses on Musil's parents and their generation who courted during the World War II era.

The program will also include work by guest choreographers Armando Duarto and Carley Conder, music by Steve Reich and Michael Buble and even a few flying red balls that may stray from the traditional stage space, said Phillips.

Dancers' Company was selected last year to perform at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. in the American College Dance Festival representing the best of the country's university dance programs. This spring they will travel to Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic and Jamaica.

For more information, contact Rebecca Wright Phillips at (801) 422-8022.
